Lake Highlands was treated to the first community Oktoberfest Oct. 1 sponsored by the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands.

The festival took place at the Lake Highlands Town Center site. The weather was beautiful the entire day and it is estimated that more than 4,500 people attended. Continue Reading »

Speaking of Doctors Hospital at White Rock Lake, and we were just this morning, the Patient Access Services team pooled their respective carpentry talents to benefit Family Gateway, an Old East Dallas agency that provides housing and services to homeless families.

A pair of canine-centric events take place tomorrow and present a doubled-up opportunity for anyone looking to add a dog to the domicile.

Operation Kindness takes to Flagpole Hill from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Oct. 1, to put on Dog Day Afternoon.

The event, according to the website, features “vendors with samples, free goodie bags, K9 contests with great prizes, a free pet psychic, an alumni parade, free face painting, live music by GT Texas, and complimentary microchipping for the first 50 dogs.” Continue Reading »

Community Contribution

Through the fundraising efforts of the Stonewall Jackson PTA, the school upgraded this year to a new white “blacktop” on which students play and learn.

A ribbon cutting ceremony takes place at 8:30 a.m., Oct. 4, at the school to officially acknowledge the completion of this two-year long PTA-commissioned project.

Students, staff, parents, and state Rep. Dan Branch, acting as Principal for the Day, will all be in attendance. Continue Reading »

The Exchange Club of Lake Highlands puts on its first community celebration of Octoberfest just as the calendar changes over to October. Timing is everything.

The near-daylong festivities run from 11 a.m.-8 p.m., Oct. 1, at the Lake Highlands Town Center, southeast corner of Skillman Street and Walnut Hill Lane.
