Speaking of Doctors Hospital at White Rock Lake, and we were just this morning, the Patient Access Services team pooled their respective carpentry talents to benefit Family Gateway, an Old East Dallas agency that provides housing and services to homeless families.

Doctors Hospital at White Rock Lake recently received the Get With The Guidelines: Heart Failure Gold Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association.

The recognition signifies that Doctors Hospital has reached an aggressive goal of treating heart failure patients with 85 percent compliance for at least 24 months to core standard levels of care as outlined by the AHA-American College of Cardiology secondary prevention guidelines for heart failure patients. Doctors Hospital at White Rock Lake named Denise Krajewski, RN, MSN, FACHE, as its new chief nursing officer.

Krajewski’s career in health care spans several decades. She has worked numerous leadership roles and most recently served in a dual role as chief nursing officer for Metropolitan Methodist Hospital and division chief nurse executive in San Antonio. In that position, she was responsible for facility and division clinical operations, including staff development, performance improvement, and program development. Continue Reading »

Swollen. Ugly. Painful. While some women joke that varicose veins are merely “roadmaps” on the backs of their legs, that doesn’t change the truth behind this uncomfortable condition — nor does it alleviate the pain that often accompanies it.

“In normal veins, valves keep blood moving toward the heart,” said James Kohn, M.D., a vascular surgeon at Doctors Hospital at White Rock Lake. “Varicose veins are the result of incompetent valves causing elevated venous pressure and reversal of flow. The Dallas County Medical Society Alliance, in conjunction with the Church of the Incarnation, hosts a health fair next weekend targeting East Dallas residents in advance of the 2011-12 school year.

The church serves as the location Aug. 13 from 9 a.m.-noon. The event is free to the public and is an easy way to bring children’s shots up to date. Immunizations will be provided by the Dallas County Health Department.

The clinic will feature the free immunizations, a bicycle safety course, an “Ask the Doctor” booth, a zumba dance demonstration, an “Ask the Attorney” booth, and health screenings, including mammogram appointments, and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation will hand out information on type 1 and type 2 diabetes, free screenings will be performed. Doctors Hospital at White Rock Lake has again been recognized for its quality stroke care, this time, with a Bronze Achievement Award from the American Heart Association‘s Get With The Guidelines-Stroke program.

The award signifies that Doctors Hospital has complied with at least 85 percent of the GWTG-Stroke program’s achievement measures for at least 90 consecutive days. Described as “the premier hospital-based quality improvement program,” GTWG-Stroke helps ensure that a hospital’s care for stroke patients is performed using the latest scientific guidelines.
