Woodrow Wildcat Band Camp opened today at Mount Auburn Elementary School.

Chris Walls, director of bands, has been working for two weeks with the Leadership Corps and the Wildcat Drum Line, getting ready for football season. Today marked the first day of full band rehearsal.

“Yes, we are marching,” Walls said. “We start at 9 a.m., before the temperatures get too intense. After lunch, we work on music. We are planning some great halftime shows this year, and with homecoming scheduled for September, we need to get it in gear early.”

Band camp runs through Aug. 18, Monday-Friday, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

“We fed the drum line pizza and took them to Tietze Park for an afternoon of swimming last Friday,” Kellie Hardy, Wildcat Band Boosters president, said. “We have several other surprise treats planned for the kids, too. While the work they do is important, we want them to have fun while they’re at it.”

If you have a student who will, or might, be in the Wildcat band or the flag corps this coming year, they need to be in camp. Tuition is free, but students are responsible for their own lunch. Bottled water is provided by the Wildcat Band Boosters.

Instruments and music are also provided. Students should wear appropriate shorts, T-shirts, and tennis shoes, and be prepared to be outdoors.

Drop-off is at Mount Auburn Elementary, East Grand Avenue at Beacon Street, at 9 a.m., and pickup is at 3 p.m. Questions about band camp may be addressed to Walls or Hardy.

Thanks to band boosters President Kellie Hardy for providing the information.
