Cheering the Parade

Woodrow cheerleaders — photo by Jim Hardwick

By Bruce Felps

The photo of the Woodrow Wilson High School cheerleaders riding in the Lakewood Fourth of July Parade contains a peripheral interesting tidbit.

Jim Hardwick, Wildcat class of 1978, snapped the photo of the cheerleaders, among whom rides his daughter, Rebecca.

The family’s Woodrow cheerleading lineage traces back to Rebecca’s sister, Ginny, their mom, Evelyn, and aunt Nancy, who also performed with the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. Then there’s Aunt Margie, a Sweethearts drill team member who went on to perform in the American Ballet Theater with Mikhail Baryshnikov.

Gimme a wow …

Thanks to Kyle Rains for providing the information and photo.

What a great Lakewood family are the Hardwicks! I run into Nancy at the post office every once and a while – we were Long Treasurettes together last century! Treasurettes – what a great name!
