Love a parade, fireworks? Good

OK, the long Independence Day weekend starts in about an hour for some of us, a little latter for the rest of us, and of course, this weekend is all about the Fourth of July.

The forecast: mostly parade-y with a 100 percent chance of lit-up night sky Monday.

Undoubtedly, there will be plenty of private parties going on, but let’s focus on the public events.

The Lakewood Fourth of July Parade rolls at 10 a.m., Monday, from deep in the heart of the neighborhood.

The Lake Highlands version of community Independence Day celebrations — complete with our new mayor riding out front — starts at 9 a.m., Monday, with the annual parade followed by the neighborhood party at the park.

Meanwhile, Little Forest Hills gets in on the July 4 act also at 9 a.m., Monday.

After the morning and early afternoon festivities come to a close and we cool off for a bit, it’s time to regroup, scope a worthy vantage point, and take in the ooos and ahhhhs of this year’s fireworks show from Lakewood Country Club.

Whole Foods offers customers a patio party and watching spot from its parking lot. The side streets surrounding the country club provide a good view, and I have my annual routine for combining a burger, a beer, and the big bangs.

I repeat: Do not take my parking spot.

See you there.
