Fishing for a White Rock Win

By Bruce Felps

Add fishing to the mix of events taking place in honor of the White Rock Lake Centennial Celebration.

Seventy-five teams of bass fisherpersons take to the lake from 5 a.m.-1 p.m., June 18, from the base of operations at the White Rock Boat Club for the White Rock Lake Centennial Team Bass Tournament.

The anglers will complete for cash prizes of $2,000, $1,000, and $500, along with a $500 gift certificate to Dick’s Sporting Goods, for the biggest fish caught.

Presumably this is a spectator sport — they do televise similar competitions — and the public is invited out to watch the tournament and take in the catch weigh-in and awards ceremony at 1 p.m., at the boat club.

What does a fan cheer or chant during a fishing contest? Certainly not “DEE-FENSE [clap, clap], DEE-FENSE.”
