Planning Ahead
By Bruce Felps
Dallas ISD recently released its general start-and-end times schedule for the next school year, which convenes Aug. 22, so parents and students can start preparing for the changes.
Full day prekindergarten for 2011-12 classes run from 8:15 a.m.-3:15 p.m., while half-day prekindergarten breaks into 8:15-11:15 a.m., and 12:15-3:15 p.m.
Elementary schools shift to 8:15 a.m.-3:15 p.m., middle schools go to 8:45 a.m.-3:45 p.m., and high schools ring in at 9 a.m. and ring out at 4 p.m., then they shake it all about.
Vanguard schools, grades four-six, remain in session from 8:15 a.m.-3:15 p.m., and academies run from 8:45 a.m.-3:45 p.m.
The George Bannerman and Harry Stone Montessori schools also run from 8:15 a.m.-3:15 p.m.
Magnets Irma Rangel, Skyline, and Townview go from 9:15 a.m.-4:15 p.m., and Booker T. clocks in at 9 a.m. and clocks out at 4 p.m.
Plan accordingly.
Now, moving into Lakewood as it applies to Lakewood Elementary School, the Meet the Teacher schedule takes place as follows:
- First and fifth grades, 6 p.m., Aug. 15, in the designated classrooms and auditorium, respectively;
- Second and fourth grades, 6 p.m., Aug. 16, in the designated classrooms and auditorium, respectively;
- Third grade, 6 p.m., Aug. 17, in the auditorium, and;
- Kindergarten, 6 p.m., Aug. 18, in the auditorium.
Man, the 2010-11 school year is out for only about 20 minutes before we’re talking about next year.
