Art Intersects Faith

By Bruce Felps

Art and religion have a long-standing relationship. One of the latest manifestations of that relationship will take place this weekend at Dallas First Church.

The church presents its third annual Celebration of the Arts: Celebrating the Intersection of Art and Faith June 11 and 12 at its Uptown location.

The two-day event kicks off with a free breakfast from 9-9:30 a.m., June 11, followed by the morning service from 10-12:30 p.m., during which artist Nathan Greene will speak, Steven Mosley will present “Chosen Garment,” and Michael Cruz supplies the music.

Cruz, along with guest artist Pricila Piedra, returns for the evening concert and service from 7-8 p.m., June 11.

The art show and gallery runs from 8-10 p.m., June 11. Creations ranging from textiles to paintings, drawings, and photography will be on display, and free light hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Art classes will be available from 1-4 p.m., June 12, to round out the two-day program.

Artists wishing to display their works must register today.

The church, yes, is in Uptown but some congregants live in Lakewood and asked nicely for a piece on the art festival to run here, so we’ll allow it.
