Lakehill Walks Graduation Stage

Members of Lakehill Preparatory School’s class of 2011 took their final walk across the school stage May 27 in Lakehill’s 38th commencement ceremony.

This year’s valedictorians are Sarah Baker and John Godbey. Baker, who entered Lakehill in the second grade, will attend the University of San Diego where she will participate in the Meris et Spiritus Honors Program. She plans to study biology.

Godbey, who has attended Lakehill in since kindergarten, will attend Duke University, where he plans to study engineering.

The salutatorian is Alison Hanson, who has attended Lakehill since the eighth grade. She will attend Rhodes College where she plans to study environmental science or neuroscience.

This year, more than 60 percent of Lakehill’s graduates plan to pursue science as a major in college. Once again, 100 percent of Lakehill graduates will continue their education in a four-year college or university. The year’s class received 175 acceptance letters to more than 100 colleges and universities in the United States and Europe.

Recent choices include Brown University, Morehouse College, Northwestern University, University of Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Christian University, Tufts University, University of Southern California, Vanderbilt University, and Vassar College.

The class of 2011 includes five National Merit Scholars, including three finalists and a National Merit Scholarship winner, as well as three National Achievement Scholars, with one National Achievement finalist and a National Achievement Scholarship winner, and one National Hispanic Scholar. Twenty-five percent of the senior class was honored with National Honors by The College Board.

Collectively, the Lakehill class of 2011 earned more than $3.5 million in academic scholarships, an average of more than $110,000 per graduate.
