Most people have about four-ish hours remaining in the workday and week, some of us even less.

That, right there, was a soon-to-be self-fulfilling prophesy.

With three days of weekend ahead, the question of how to fill that time arises. There are plenty of options.

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra plays Flagpole Hill at 8 p.m., May 30, and the evening climaxes with a fireworks show.

The Arboretum conducts a concert of its own, this one for kids, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., May 30, at the outdoor amphitheater. The botanical gardens also operates a full slate of weekend activities, so check the website or give them a call at (214) 515-6500 for a full rundown.

In honor of the true reason for the Memorial Day commemoration — military personnel who have served honorably and, in far too many cases, given their lives for our freedom — the Carry the Load event takes place starting at 4 p.m., May 29 and concludes at 12:11 p.m., May 30, at the Bath House Cultural Center.

Speaking of White Rock Lake, the White Rock Sprint Rowing Championships launch at 8 a.m., from the White Rock Boathouse as part of the White Rock Lake Centennial Celebration.

Let’s not forget the Rockstravaganza orchestrated by the staff and students of the School of Rock to benefit the IB programs at Woodrow and J.L. Long. The 40-band-five-venue day of concerts runs noon-7 p.m., May 29, at The Door, the Prophet Bar, Club Dada, Trees, and The Bone.

Finally, Amy “Moonlady” Martin offers up a paean to a century old tree at the Bath House. City personnel soon will remove the tree because of its age and failing health, but not before Martin and her band of huggers gives it a proper memorial service, and with that we have come full circle.
