By Bruce Felps

Daniel Munoz-Vidal, a Lakewood resident and senior at Booker T. Washington High School, walked away with this year’s top prize in the U.S. House District 5 Congressional Art Competition.

His winning pencil drawing, titled Chairs, earned Munoz-Vidal a trip to Washington, D.C., next month for the unveiling ceremony honoring winners from each district. The collective works will hang in a corridor of the U.S. Capitol.

He also gets a meeting with District 5 Rep. Jeb Hensarling.

“This is a great honor for me to have won the Congressional Art Competition for 2011 for the 5th District,” Munoz-Vidal said in a press release. “I have worked countless hours and have devoted so much to my work, and for this piece of art to have been noticed, from a student who takes pride in his work, is really a great honor. I cannot emphasize how important and how grateful I am to have received this award.”
