For the second time within the last month a sailboat regatta takes to White Rock Lake.

The White Rock Boat Club, as part of the Comerica White Rock Lake Centennial Celebration, launches it 50th anniversary Centennial Sailing Regatta at 10:30 a.m., May 21, from the club docks …  weather permitting.

Organizers with the WRBC expect 50-75 boats, all flying centennial flags, to participate in three races.

For those of you who speak nautical-ese, this from the club’s press release: “The
regatta is open to all registered centerboard boats having a Portsmouth Handicap Rating and to Corinthian class sailboats. Five or more boats of the same class will constitute a fleet and race against each other as a One Design Class. Classes with fewer than five boats will be grouped together to form a Portsmouth Class.”
