Exchange Club Awards $100K in Scholarships

The Exchange Club of Lake Highlands conducted its annual scholarship awards breakfast May 6 at the Highland Oaks Church of Christ.

Scholarships totaling $109,500 were awarded to 46 graduating seniors from Lake Highlands High School.

“We want to thank everyone who has supported our efforts this year,” said Tommy Bailey, Exchange Club president. “Over the past 14 years, The Exchange Club of Lake Highlands has presented over $1,200,000 in scholarships to deserving students.”

Recipients of this year’s Exchange Club Academic Scholarships were Alexandra Clift, Emily Hillman, Ethan Lewis, Caleb McCoy, Christmas Myers, Katie North, Sarah Picket, Libby Seeley, Ben Wolf, and Alexandra Ziehm. The Dr. Bob Iden Scholarship was presented to Said Navarro.

Awards from The Bob Potts Family Working Students Scholarships include: Quaneshia Cooper, Divinity Dixon, Desiree Fields, Chloe Hight, Constance Ibe, Alejandra Ortega, and Bridgett Smith.

The Data Jo Potts Memorial Scholarships were presented to Angie Alvarez, Brian Dupree, Ebone Green, Fanta Kaba, Aly Pineda, Luz Reyes, and Tierra Scott.

The memory of Lake Highlands and Texas Tech student Melinda Ann Lee was honored with a presentation of The Melinda Ann Lee Memorial Scholarship to Reid Zambardio.  The Neal Smith Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Deborah Andrews.

Educator Jeff Kane was remembered with a scholarship presentation to Decheil Cooper. A scholarship was awarded to Tuan Iang in memory of Herb and Frances Walne.

The Robbie Daniel Memorial Scholarship was presented to Drew Donica. Scholarships in memory of Jason Oglesby were presented to Molly Noah, Sarey Palma, and Jacqueline Williams.

The Luck Foundation and David Tice awarded scholarships to Jeff Claybrook, Savannah Flusche, Mindy George, Kevin Ndukwe, Guadalupe Renteria, Maria Sandoval, Ryan Spencer, Tre Stewart, Eyobe Tamene, and Myisha Wells.

Scholarships were awarded to LeeAnn Flinn, Emily Graham, Kevin Ndukwe, and Rebecca Ziehm by the The Exchange Club Board of Directors.

This year’s Scholarship Committee included Justin Bono, Dave Brown, Tracy Cox, Greg Duval, Ronda Moreland and Frank Wall. The Working Students/Memorial Scholarships Committee members included Ted Steinke, Susan Kane, Jack Norman, and Shirley Zsohar.

“Being a part of a student’s future success is one of the goals of the Exchange Club,” Bailey said. “Our membership is honored to present these awards and (we) wish to thank all the memorial and special scholarship families for their tremendous and ongoing generosity toward Lake Highlands.”
