Doctors Hospital Joins Federal Hospital Quality Program

Community Contribution

Doctors Hospital at White Rock Lake has joined the U.S. Department of Health and Human ServicesPartnership for Patients—a public-private partnership that aims to make hospital care safer, more reliable, and more affordable for patients.

“We are proud to participate in this valuable program,” Doctors Hospital CEO Scott Manis said. “Partnership for Patients is right in line with our top priorities. We have long-standing commitments to outstanding care and to reducing unnecessary patient costs, and we look forward to building upon our successes in those and other areas in the coming months.”

According to HHS, the program’s primary goals are to reduce the number of hospital-acquired conditions by 40 percent and to decrease preventable hospital readmissions by 20 percent by 2013, as compared to 2010. HHS predicts that during the next three years, the partnership could help save 60,000 lives and up to $35 billion in health-care costs — including up to $10 billion for Medicare.

HHS plans to invest up to $1 billion on reforms under the new partnership for patients initiative, which already includes more than 500 hospitals in addition to Doctors, along with physicians and nurses groups, consumer groups, and employers from across the country.
