Playing the Lottery

La Botella, The Bottle, card No. 9 in the game La Loteria — by Lilia Estrada

By Bruce Felps

East Dallas residents unfamiliar with the popular Mexican board game La Loteria, The Lottery, have the opportunity this weekend to learn about the game in an artistic setting. People familiar with the game can see it in a different kind of representation.

The Bath House Cultural Center conducts the opening reception — 7-9 p.m., April 30 —  for its art exhibit ¡Lotería, Lotería!.

The gallery features interpretations of game cards created by 54 local artists, including photographic contributor and East Dallas resident Lilia Estrada.

The exhibit — curated by Enrique Fernández Cervantes, Bath House visual arts coordinator and curator — runs through May 7, when it concludes with A Night of Loteria, 7-8:30 p.m., when community members gather for a rousting round of La Loteria.

Good luck.
