Running for Police

By Bruce Felps

Friends of the Dallas Police Department aim to raise funds to augment officers’ insurance in case of an injury, accident, or illness that might hit an officer or family member.

The second annual White Rock 5K, which takes off at 8 a.m., April 9, from the staring line at Winfrey Point, serves as that fundraiser that feeds the Assist the Officer Foundation.

The course wends its way through White Rock Lake environs and the Peninsula neighborhood.

Registration, which costs $30, for the race is open online or $35 at the race. Doctors Hospital at White Rock Lake also operates a registration desk in the lobby of the medical building on Thursday from 3-7 p.m., and Friday from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.

The event also includes a crafts area for children and a KidsK race, which starts at 9:20 a.m., April 9. Raffles and the awards ceremony take place after the main race.

Contact Mel Cyrak, race co-director, for more information.
