Scenes Seen at Woodrow Chili Cook-Off

By Bruce Felps

The chili cook-off this past weekend sponsored by the Woodrow Band Booster Club attracted enough of a turnout for organizers to declare it a success and to plan for next year’s installment.

Neighborhood businesses Talulah Belle, Blow Salon, Curiosities, Cantina Laredo, Times Ten Cellars, Tuesday Morning, Random, Lakewood Hardware, along with the Peak’s Addition neighborhood donated raffle prizes.

Culinary winners were the Whole Foods-Lakewood deli department, led by Curtis, with its Guest Favorite Chili; Andrea Wolek won the teacher challenge; and Lana Awbrey won the open challenge and crowd favorite with her Class of ’73 Roadkill Chili.

Destini Pearson, obviously a professional, won the sack race and egg-spoon roll races, while Joe and Tim Allen took the wheelbarrow race.

Competitions aside, the event featured fun, and a goodly amount of it based on the photos.

Thanks to band booster President Kellie Hardy for providing the information and photos.
