Reed Henry, a seventh-grader at Lakehill Preparatory School, came out on top in a hotly contested Geo Bee school competition earlier this year.

The win propelled Henry to the qualification round leading up to the state semifinals in the National Geographic Society-sanctioned Geo Bee competitions.

To qualify for state, he first had to pass a 70-question written examination on world geography. Henry cleared that hurdle and becomes one of 100 state qualifiers.

The state round in which Henry will participate takes place April 1 in Bedford, Texas.

The winner there advances to the nationals, May 24-25 in Washington, D.C., where, if he succeeds in the state round, Henry could vie for a $25,000 college scholarship.

The student clearly knows where he is in the world, and where he’s not.
