Seeing Clearly

By Bruce Felps

The J.L. Long Middle School PTA recently circulated a flier containing information about free eye screenings for kids aged 4-12.

The screenings, exams, and prescriptions if warranted — called KidsVisionFest — take place from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., March 15, at the Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe.

It also includes free ophthalmology appointments for children with crossed eyes.

To be eligible for the screenings, kids must live in households in which combined incomes do not exceed twice the poverty level or have Medicaid benefits to cover eye exams.

Appointments will not be taken for the first come-first served exams. Parents or parental permission forms must accompany children.

E-mail or call (972) 401-1186 for more information, or (214) 496-4217 in Spanish.
