Seeing shades of green

By Bruce Felps

About 12,000 of our closest friends showed up for yesterday’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade after-party along Lower Greenville Avenue, according to police estimates.

The partying crowd mostly stayed on its best behavior with police making six arrests for public intoxication and two for drunken driving, along with 21 citations issued for public consumption, and 42 towed vehicles.

Evidently, police displayed a fair amount of tolerance. One guy I saw about half-walk-half-stagger into the intersection of Richmond and Delmar avenues — blocking traffic in all directions while a friend snapped his photo — escaped arrest even though an officer sat maybe 10 feet away in his squad and watched the shenanigans.

Alas, I have no original photos from the parade or party, but here’s a link to an Unfair Park slideshow and another to a post containing two videos from the parade.

Ah, fun times.

[…] Such an idyllic and genteel way to throw a party. A little different from last weekend. […]
