Bridging 100 Years

By Bruce Felps

Local organizers associated with the Women for Women campaign plan an East Dallas celebration to mark the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day.

The event takes place from 1-1:30 p.m., March 8, along the bridge spanning White Rock Lake, Mockingbird Lane between the two Lawthers.

It’s part of a global happening in support of women working to make better lives across the world, particularly in war-torn countries.

Called Join Me on the Bridge, last year’s inaugural event attracted more than 20,000 throughout the world, 30 of whom assembled on the White Rock bridge.

According to a press release, “this local event, organized by Dallas singer/songwriter/creativity coach Jill Allison Bryan, hopes to raise the number of attendees here in East Dallas to more than 100 with the goal of each person donating at least $1 to meet the ‘100 for 100’ fundraising effort put forth by Women for Women. A woman who fled war in the Congo more than a decade ago and now lives in Dallas will attend the event and share her personal story.”
