Parks or party?

By Bruce Felps

The Dallas Park and Recreation Department, like a lot of city services, needs the public’s help in tending to its appointed tasks.

DPR recently sent out a call for help with its first “It’s My Park Day” — 8 a.m.-noon, March 12, at a park near you — in which citizens set about volunteer work to clean up trash, remove graffiti, plant flowers and shrubs, and otherwise make pretty at their neighborhood parks.

It’s intended for individuals, families, neighborhood associations, civic groups, church groups, sports teams, clubs, you name it. Register online to chip in.

It’s My Park Day is a good idea, but it might just be met with an underwhelming volunteer turnout.

Recognize that date, March 12? Yup, that’s the day of this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade and street party on Greenville Avenue.

I know where I’ll be.
