Wildcats great Brown nominated for Hall

By Bruce Felps

Tim Brown started his sterling football career with the Woodrow Wilson High School Wildcats … not counting junior high or Pop Warner leagues.

He won a Heisman Trophy while with Notre Dame — joining fellow Wildcats alum Davey O’Brien for that honor, and making Woodrow the only public school to produce two Heisman winners — before moving on to the NFL with the Oakland Raiders.

You know all this, right?

Anyway, Brown missed out on enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame during previous eligibility, and again is among the group of 2011 finalists.

He also is among a group of fan favorites to make a Popularity Hall of Fame in an online contest conducted by Van Heusen shirts, and he needs a little help.

He trails Cornelius Bennett, Kent Hull, Andre Reed, Fred Smerlas, Darryl Talley, and Steve Tasker — um, Buffalo Bills much? — in fan voting, so rally Woodrow Nation and help get Brown over the top.

P.S.: This has no bearing on the genuine Hall of Fame. Only credentialed NFL beat writers and columnists with newspapers in NFL cities cast ballots for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
