Two Lakehill Preparatory School students landed parts in the Dallas Children’s Theater production of “EAT (It’s Not About Food),” a powerful play by award-winning playwright Linda Daugherty.

The play examines the dangerous and baffling world of eating disorders in boys and girls.

Eleventh-grade student Brandon Kinard and seventh-grade student Laura Walton were thrilled to be called back after their initial auditions. Now they are fully involved in a vigorous rehearsal schedule, preparing for tonight’s opening.

Kinard, a member of the International Thespian Society, is active in advanced drama and musical theater, and was most recently seen as Mr. Beaton in “Brigadoon.” Walton is active in the middle school drama program, making her Lakehill debut last semester as Smindy in “It’s a Wonderful Neverland.”

Drama instructor Elizabeth Schmitt encouraged her students to try out, despite the fact that more than 100 students auditioned for these roles.

“To have two of our students cast in this important production is quite an accomplishment,” Schmitt said.

Performances are Jan. 21 at 7:30 p.m.; Jan. 22 and 23 at 1:30 p.m.; Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m.; and Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets cost $10 for all performances and seating is limited. Subject matter is most appropriate for ages 12 and up.

Thanks to Gigi Ekstrom, Lakehill’s director of marketing and community relations, for providing the words and picture.
