The Exchange Club of Lake Highlands last Friday added to its list of Youth of the Month.

January’s honorees — Alexa Clift and Ben Wolf, both seniors at Lake Highlands High School — won in part on the strength of essays titled “America’s Youth and Community Service: Shining the Light of Volunteerism.”

Clift ranks fifth in her graduating class with a 101.85 grade point average. She counts calculus and anatomy among her favorite classes, and is a member of the National Honor Society, Girls Service League, Mu Alpha Theta, and Student Council. Clift plays varsity tennis, serves as a Moss Haven Elementary School math tutor, and is enrolled in the Professional Intern Program in the Pediatric Health Center at Presbyterian Hospital.

Wolf carries a 98.68 GPA toward graduation. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Student Council, and the Student Advisory Council, plus is a varsity basketball player, senior class treasurer, and Academic Decathlon captain. Get this, he also is the co-author of two patents in the field of nano-imaging.

The duo become eligible for the Exchange Club’s Youth of the Year award bestowed in May.

That change in barometric pressure you feel comes from these kids’ parents swelling up with pride.
